January 22, 1926 - June 1, 2021
Doris Ruth Gladfelter, 95, of Lima died the morning of Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at The Springs of Lima, surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 22, 1926 in Lima to Don and Ethel (Zeits) McGuire, who both preceded her in death. On November 15, 1947, she married the love of her life, Willard Gladfelter, who died in 2009. They were married 62 years.
Mrs. Gladfelter was a ’44 graduate of Shawnee Senior High School and was employed by Nickles Bakery and later for Montgomery Wards. She was a member of Cable Road Alliance Church all her life, where she was involved in several activities.
Mostly she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who always put her family first. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting; she made several of our clothes including wedding dresses. She was known mostly for her cooking. One would never arrive at her house where she wouldn’t give you something good to eat. She will always be remembered for her large family dinners and for her generosity and kindness to every family member.
Survivors include a son, David Gladfelter of Lima; three daughters, Diana Isaacs, Linda (Paul) Priest and Rebecca (Jeff) Keith all of Lima; seven grandchildren Melissa Priest, Amy Johnson, Paul Priest, Shawn Priest, Jennifer Keith, Bethanie Miller, Nathan Saylor. She had nineteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Anita Begley; two sisters and a brother.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.
Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
