Donald R Wellbaum, age 87, passed away on March 23, 2022, at 6:34 pm, at his residence surrounded by his family. Donald was born June 15, 1934, in Lima, OH, to Joseph and Edith (Brandon) Wellbaum who preceded him in death. On June 12, 1953, he married Shirley (Gause) Wellbaum who preceded him in death on January 12, 2006.
Don was a 1952 graduate of Lima South High School. He had worked his entire career with Ex-Cell-O retiring in 1995 after 42 years of dedicated service. Don started with the company in Lima on the floor in the paint booth and then transferred to the Bluffton plant where he worked as the plant supervisor and then eventually became the plant superintendent. He was a longtime member of the Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren. Don loved fishing, wood working and going to the casino. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family, especially those grandkids and great grandkids.
Don is survived by his children: Tony ( Harriet ) Wellbaum and Kim (Rebecca) Wellbaum both of Lima, OH and Brenda (Chet) Fisher of Knoxville, TN, 5 grandchildren: Kelly (Josh) Smith, Bryan (Andrea) Fisher, Kayla (John) Englehardt, Alexis Wellbaum and Jessica Wellbaum and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 12 siblings.
There will be a funeral service held on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will Rev. Mike Huffaker. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum following the service. Friends may visit on Sunday from 2-5 pm at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL.
