Don E. Young, Jr., age 74, passed away December 30, 2020, at 3:09 pm, at the Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center. Don was born October 4, 1946, in Lima, OH, to Don E. and Emma K. (Baer) Young Sr. who preceded him in death. On August 6, 1966, he married Jacqueline “Jackie” (Loggi) Young who survives in Lima.
Don attended Lima City Schools. He had worked as a brick mason for the Local #35 for 25 years with most of that time with Robert Martz Masonry retiring in 2007 due to his disability. Don loved NASCAR Racing with Dale Earnhart and Kevin Harvick being his favorite drivers. He was also an avid Michigan and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan and he enjoyed going to the casinos. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his children: Brian (Alisha) Young of Ishpeming, MI, Gloria Young of Douglasville, GA and Stephen (Letitia) Young of Lima, OH, 9 grandchildren: Alexxa, Samantha, Olivia and Temperance Young, Elizabeth Neff, Trey Young, Tyler Young, Jordan Young and Ciera Ward, 2 great grandchildren: Isaac Neff-Akridge and Marti Willey, his siblings: Sandra Brodnick of Lakeview, OH, William Edward (Rebecca) Young of Lima, OH, Kathy Hoskinson of Waynesfield, OH, Joyce Everett of Wapakoneta, OH and Connie (Mike) Hensley of Lakeview, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Rick Young, Delores Sue (Walter) Craft and Tammy Young, brothers in-law, Mike Hoskinson, Mike Everett and Tom Brodnick and a nephew, Ryan Young.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic there will be a private family service held on Monday, January 4, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Fr. Kent Kaufman. Entombment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery mausoleum following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Interim Healthcare and the Area Agency on Aging.
