Derek Powell, age 90, passed away March 8, 2022, at 4:00 am, at the Shawnee Manor Nursing Home in Lima, OH. Derek was born July 17, 1931, in Stockton-on-Tees, England.
Derek was educated in England and graduated from Durham University and continued his studies in Engineering at Penn State University. He had served as a radioman in the Royal Air Force. During his career as a civil engineer in the iron and steel industry, he worked collectively for over 40 years with American Bridge Company in Canada, Salem Industries, and LOI, Inc in Pittsburgh, PA and then with Hoogovens USA, Inc. from which he retired.
Derek is survived by his 2 sons: David D. (Jean) Powell D.O. of Lima, OH and Christopher M. Powell of Phoenix, AZ and his previous spouse Karin R. Powell of Pittsburgh, PA, sister Anne, brothers Malcolm and Clifford and a large loving family in England.
Following Derek’s wishes, there will not be any services held at this time and his cremated remains will be taken to England to be scattered in the North Sea at Whitby. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
