Demarius “Dee” Annabea Austin, age 86, passed away January 12, 2023, at 2:37 pm, at the ProMedica Nursing Facility in McMurray, PA. Dee was born June 21, 1936 in Manistee, MI, to John H. and Susie J. (Forrider) Humes who preceded her in death. On September 24, 1956, she married Roger L. Austin who preceded her in death on May 6, 2018.
Dee is survived by her children: Candace Y. (Jim) Connolly of Washington, PA, Mark (Christina Beckman) Austin of Wapakoneta, OH, Steven (Connie Pelfrey) Austin of Lima, OH and daughter in-law, Helen Austin of Lima, OH, 6 grandchildren: Patrick (Tiffany) Connolly, Shawn (Bri Valleskey) Connolly, Troy (Amanda Holbrook) Austin, Misty (David) Stricker, Cody (April) Austin and Dakota (Mason) Schmalenberger, 7 great grandchildren, Xander, Davin, Tanner, Payden, Colin, Eli and Maisie. She was preceded in death by her son Douglas Austin, an infant brother Owen Humes, a brother Grover “Calvin” Humes and sister, Norma (Charles) Burden.
Dee had attended Lima South High School then graduated from Lafayette Jackson High School in 1954. She had worked with several area grocery stores and retired from Kash N Karry. Through the years she had also owned the Coffee Bin/General Nutrition Store and PDQ Pizza and Carry Out (with her son Doug). Dee was a founding member of the Allen County Genealogical Society and on her own did genealogy for more than 50 years. She also enjoyed traveling, antiquing and was an avid collector of mustache cups. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. For 65 years she never missed an Austin family reunion. She will be remembered as being “One Spunky/Feisty Lady”.
There will be a funeral service held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 12 noon at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Pastor David Holbrook. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
Friends may visit on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to a hospice organization of your choosing. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
