Delbert Mayer Jr., 80 of Lima, passed away April 26, 2022, at 8:18 PM, Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Delbert was born January 17, 1942 in Lima, to Delbert and Opal (Shanks) Mayer, who preceded him in death. On September 3, 1960, he married Carolyn (Dye) Mayer, who preceded him in death on January 26, 2021.
Delbert attended Elida High School and worked as a semi driver for over 50 years until his retirement in 2009. He was a long-time member and Deacon at the Ark of the Covenant Baptist Church and a member of multiple bowling leagues for 40 years. Delbert was an avid hunter, fisherman and he loved camping. He enjoyed attending and participating in historic car shows with his 1965 Dodge Dart GT. Delbert recently became a member of the Fraternal Order of the Orioles Nest 173 and he loved singing karaoke. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Delbert will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Delbert is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Jodi) Mayer of Lima, Vicki (Barry) Cohn of Dayton, Ronald (Diane Williams) Mayer of Lima, Kevin (Dawn Greenwood) Mayer of Lima and Melissa (Kevin Alves) Mayer of Lima; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Hunlock; sisters, Bette Plaugher and Darlene Miller; brothers, Donald Mayer and Jerry (Natalie) Mayer; sister, Waneta Caudill; sister-in-law, Maxine Mayer and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Dale Mayer; daughter, Theresa Mayer; sister, Helen Hendrickson; brother, John Mayer, sisters, Virginia Pennock and Mary Klett; brother, Billy Mayer and his sister, Dorothy Nichols.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum with Pastor Arnold Wright to officiate. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM on Friday, April 29, 2022 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL.
