Deborah J. Helms, age 61, passed away October 17, 2022, at 4:39 am, at the Lima Memorial Health System. Deborah was born June 8, 1961, in Columbus, OH, to John L. and Barbara J.(Kohli ) Patterson. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives in Lima. On December 5, 1981, she married Eric D. Helms who survives in Harrod, OH.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Aleesha (Matthew) Miller of Lima, OH and a son, Aaron Helms of Harrod, OH, 3 grandchildren: Brooklynn, Caelynn and Oaklynn Miller, 5 siblings: Chuck (Angie) Patterson of Beaverdam, OH, Diane Clark of Spencerville, OH, Dolly Patterson of Lima, OH, Joe (Kim) Patterson of Lakeview, OH and Larry (Susan) Patterson of Lima, OH and a sister in-law, Shelly Patterson of Bluffton, OH. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Alan Patterson and John Patterson, a nephew, Johnny Patterson, her father in-law, Darrell Helms, a brother in-law, Kent Helms and a nephew, Drew Helms.
Deborah was a 1979 graduate of Allen East High School and also attended Apollo Career Center where she studied horticulture and floral design. She had worked for Robert Browns Flower Shoppe for 40 years. Deborah loved going to her weekend getaway at Lake Erie where she enjoyed kicking back and playing cards. She also had many wonderful memories going with family to Rice Lake in Canada. She loved baking and trying new recipes. Most of all she loved spending time with her 3 granddaughters and joining them with their many activities. Deborah was also the recipient of a kidney donation and “gift of life” in 2012 from her best friend Mary Smith.
There will be a funeral service held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 11:00 am at the County Line Church of the Brethren. Officiating the service will be Rev. Tom Dearth. Burial will be in Liberty Chapel Cemetery following the service.
Friends may visit on Thursday from 2-4 pm and 5-8 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL and then again on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
