David W. “Dave” Rutledge, 78, of Lima passed away at 1:23 PM on Monday, April 4, 2022 at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

He was born on April 25, 1943 in Lima, to Robert Rutledge and Margaret Lucille (Bryan) Rutledge Schlosser, who both preceded him in death. On November 24, 1990, he married Jane Ann Noonan, who survives in Lima.

Dave retired from the Lima Police Department, where he served as a Captain and a founding member of the Lima/Allen County SWAT team. He also served as a special deputy for the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. He had served on the Ft. Shawnee and Spencerville police departments. Following that he worked for USA Insurance Company.

He was a member of Lima First Missionary Church, the Delphos Eagles Aerie 471 and the FOP Lodge #21, Lima. He enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends and sitting on his front porch greeting his neighbors. He loved all of his pets.

Surviving in addition to his wife Jane Ann Rutledge are his sons Gerald (Jennifer) Rutledge of York, PA, John Rutledge of Delphos and Darren Rutledge of The Villages, FL; his daughter Angela (Ashland) Cotrell of Lima; his six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Bitler.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Pastor Tim White officiating.

Interment in Memorial Park Cemetery, will immediately follow the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lima First Missionary Church or the OSPCA of Allen County.
