David A. McDorman, age 87, passed away on May 30, 2022, at 3:00 pm, at his residence surrounded by his family. David was born September 11, 1934, in Lima, OH, to John H. and Mary (Barber) McDorman who preceded him in death. On January 28, 1968, he married Carol D. (Longbrake) McDorman who survives in Elida, OH.
Dave had attended Lima South High School and was a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran serving from 1953 through 1956. When he returned home from the service, he had worked for a short time with Meadow Gold Dairy as a milk delivery man. For 32 years he had worked for the Lima Ford Engine Plant from which he retired. David was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church and also the VFW #1275. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Notre Dame football fan. When he was younger, he and his wife enjoyed going to his brother in-law, Joe Morrison’s football games even though he played for the N.Y.Giants.
In addition to his wife, David is survived by a daughter, Stacy (Jim) Lewis of Lima, OH and a son, Scott (Jodi Rupert) McDorman of Lima, OH, 6 grandchildren: Bethany (Stephen) Oen, Evan (Olivia) Lewis, Gabriella Lewis, Brody McDorman, Addison (Blake Gratz) Lewis and Trey McDorman, 9 great grandchildren: Savannah, Ryder, Greyson, Emberly, Scarlett, Ezekiel, Emelia, Grace, and Evelyn, a sister, Patty Barrick of Toledo, OH, a brother, Craig (Kathy) McDorman of St. Marys, OH and a brother in-law, Gene Wedertz of Kenton, OH. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Wedertz, a brother, Johnny McDorman and a brother in-law, Wayne Barrick.
There will be a funeral service held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 12 noon at the Immanuel United Methodist Church, 699 Sunnydale St., Elida, OH 45807. Officiating the service will be Pastor Damian Tibbs. Burial will be in Elida Greenlawn Cemetery following the service where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Marines and the VFW #1275.
Friends may visit on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran’s Food Pantry.
