Daniel L. “Dan” Miller, age 78, was called into the presence of the Lord at 1:58 pm Sunday, March 28, 2021, at his home with his family by his side.
Dan was born February 6, 1943 in Fort Wayne, IN, to C. Dale and Delores W. (Bussing) Miller, who preceded him in death. On July 10, 1993 he married Pamela Kay “Pam” (Basinger) Miller.
Dan retired from the City of Lima, and had previously been a design engineer with International Harvester in Fort Wayne, IN. He was a registered representative with Prudential Insurance Company in Van Wert, OH. He was a FMF Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Arneb which took an atomic reactor to McMurdo Sound in the Antarctic from October 1961 to May 1962. He served 18 months with the 1st battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division and was at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba when President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.
He was an avid billiard enthusiast and was the league operator for the Billiard-Congress of America 8 Ball League at East Road Billiards. He taught billiards to youth at Westgate Lanes and ran The Lima City / Steve Cook Youth Billiard League there. While being snowbirds, Dan received great pleasure in running billiard tournaments at Pinnacle Port in Panama City Beach, Florida. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1533 at Indian Lake, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aeries #370, in Lima, Life member of the Marine Corps League and Forest Park United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Pamela Kay “Pam” Miller of Lima; four children, James D. (Sherry) Miller of Huntington, IN, Vicki McComas of Cincinnati, Kristina (Ed) Burden of Lima and Kimberly Sandy of Lima; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Carol (Bob) Mociulewski of Clinton Township, MI and a brother-in-law, Kevin (Melita) Basinger of Lima.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two children, Tony Duane Miller and Rhonda Kay Miller.
Funeral services will be begin at 6:00 pm Friday, April 2, 2021 at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Teresa Wenrick will officiate the service. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Friday, April 2, prior to the service at the funeral home.
