Cretora (Tory) Odessa Shenk Alexander, 93 of Columbus, formerly of Lima, passed away May 22, 2021.
Tory was born February 21, 1928 in Elida, to Jacob and Barbara (Culp) Shenk, who preceded her in death. On December 22, 1947, she married Roland (Alex) H. Alexander Jr., who preceded her in death on November 22, 2009.
In her younger years, Tory lived to garden and feed her family and friends. She loved to travel with her husband to places like Coldwater Lake, Michigan and Grand Isle, Louisiana where there were always a lot of fish to fry. She was a fighter who, even in her weakest moments, had an amazing strength to overcome. She was a giver of love, food, encouragement, calm, understanding and even a kick in the pants if you needed it. She would giggle while listening to and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always had a “Granny love it” in response. She was the best Granny that anyone could ever ask for and the kind of friend we should all hope to have. Her days were filled with God’s wonders and some chocolate to share. There was nothing better than flowers in her window and birds at her feeder. She was a cornerstone of caring and empathy in her family. She was blessed to be a blessing for a long and happy life.
Tory is survived by her children, Barbara Schlagbaum of Columbus, OH, Michael (Cindy) Alexander of Key Colony Beach, FL and Jacob Alexander of Lima, OH; Grandchildren, Aaron Schlagbaum, Ryan Schlagbaum, Andrea (Schlagbaum) Jones, Brandi (Alexander) Davis, Brittny Alexander, Jamie (Alexander) Bare and Lisa (Alexander) House; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and her youngest brother, William Shenk of Lima, OH.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her grandson, Jonathan Alexander; great-grandson, Gavin Reed and her 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES – SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Pastor Mark Diemer to officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 26, 2021, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
The family would appreciate fresh flower arrangements to later be placed at her grave or a donation to Grace of God Lutheran Church, 1000 Demorest Rd., Columbus, OH 43204 in honor of Mom.
