Claude V. Cliborne III, age 77, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center with his wife by his side.
Claude was born September 5, 1944 in Richmond, VA, to the late Claude V. and Lillie Belle (Pigg) Cliborne Jr. On June 17, 1967 he married Judy A. (Royer) Cliborne.
Claude was a 1967 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. He had previously worked for VEPCO (Dominion Energy) and retired from Century Link, formerly Sprint after 34 years of service as a Public Affairs Manager. Claude spent 25 years of his career in Chicago, Il. He was a proud and active member of the Lima community for many years, serving in many capacities, including President of Downtown Lima Inc. and also served on the boards of the Lima Chamber of Commerce, Allen County Visionaries and the Rhodes State College Foundation. He was an avid garage saler and accumulator of treasures. In his retirement years, Claude enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy A. Cliborne of Lima; three children, Wendy E. (Tom) Thress of Portland, ME, Sarah “Becky” (Mark) Kotarba of Elgin, IL, and Claude V. “Clay” (Ginelle) Cliborne, IV of Lake In The Hills, IL; seven grandchildren, Damian and Brandon Thress, Zachary, Marissa and Nathan Kotarba, Wyatt and Olive Cliborne; sister, Barbara (Hoyt) Overbagh of Chesterfield, VA; brother-in-law, Robert (JoAnn) Royer of Alexandria, VA, and two nephews and two nieces.
Services celebrating Claude’s life will begin at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Nathan Branim will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, prior to the service at the funeral home.
