Chuck “Poncho” Burnett, 70, of Lima passed away at 8:37 AM on Friday, March 10, 2023 at his residence.
He was born on April 16, 1952 in Lima to Harold and Genevieve (Hillard) Burnett, who both preceded him in death. On March 19, 1969, he married Pamela Johns, who survives in Lima.
Chuck proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marines. He was a certified mechanic and the owner of Mobile Mechanic and retired in 1994. He was a member of Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren, The American Legion Post #96 and the Eagles Aerie 370. He had been a lifeguard at Schoonover Pool in the early 1960’s. Chuck loved to tinker with cars and was an avid boat enthusiast and had recently gotten a new boat which he named Poncho’s Pla “Toon”, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife Pamela Burnett of Lima are his sons Terry (Nancy) Burnett of Huntsville and Chris (Sherri) Burnett of Lima; his daughter Tammy (Jeffrey) Crawford of Lima; his ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren plus one on the way; his brothers Gregory (Janet) Burnett of Ottawa and Timothy (Barbara) Burnett of Kenton; his sister Carol (Lyle) Winegardner of Harrod.
He was preceded in death by his sister Jennifer Schmiedebusch.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL, with Rev. Mike Huffaker, officiating.
Interment will immediately follow the services in Allentown Cemetery, where VFW Post 1275 and active duty members of the U.S. Marine Corp will conduct final military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Food Pantry.
