Charles Michael “Charlie” Bowen, Jr., 79, of Lima passed away at 8:34 PM on Friday, August 6, 2021 at his residence.

He was born on July 15, 1942, in Lima to Charles Sr. and Margarette (Allen) Bowen, who both preceded him in death. On June 22, 1990, he married Sandra K. (Nerderman) Mason, who survives in Lima.

Charles proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy from 1959 to 1988. He had also worked at Oakwood Correctional and was a custodian at Shawnee Schools. He was a life member of VFW Post 1275 and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the National Rifle Association and the Sabres Shooting Club. He was a member of Lima Missionary Baptist Church and loved attending. He enjoyed traveling and flower gardening.

Surviving in addition to his loving wife Sandra Bowen are his sons Scott (Theresa) Bowen of Lima, Brandon Bowen of Dayton and James (Sandy) Mason of Columbus; his daughters Tammy (John) Wright of Lima and April (Mike) McCarthy of Wapakoneta; his sister Robin Bowen of Lima; his fourteen grandchildren; his fifteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son Mike Bowen; his brothers Ronald Bowen and Rodney Bowen.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Lima Missionary Baptist Church, 3085 Yoder Road, Lima.

Rev. Terry Brock and Rev. Kenny Waldroup will officiate the service.

VFW Post 1275 and active duty members of the US Navy will conduct services at the church.

Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Missionary Baptist Church, 3085 Yoder Road, Lima.
