Charles J. “Chuck” Talley successfully transitioned into heaven on Friday, October 5, 2018, at his home, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born on April 10, 1945 in Lakewood, Ohio to Eugene E. and Dorothy L. (Ziemer) Talley who both preceded him in death. On August 20, 1967 in Zanesville, Ohio he married his high school sweetheart Mary Beth (Patterson) Talley who survives in Lima. Chuck and Mary just celebrated 50 years of marriage last August.

Upon graduating from Zanesville High School, he attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. He joined the Ohio/US Army National Guard in 1968 and was commissioned as an officer in 1969, completing his service in 1974.

Mr. Talley retired in 2008 from General Dynamics Land Systems and The Joint Systems Manufacturing Center, Lima, after 22 years of service as Human Resources Manager, Human Resources Programs Manager and Internal Consultant to Land Systems Division. Prior to joining Land Systems, he worked at The City Loan and Savings Company in Lima as Vice President of Personnel and Administration. He was also a graduate of the Ohio State University Executive Development Program, the University of Southern California’s Strategic Development Program and the University of Michigan’s Advanced Professional Development Program. He was certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources Management (SPHR) from the Society of Human Resources Management. He taught Human Resources Principles for many years at the National Institute of Consumer Credit Management summer program at Marquette University and for several years at Rhoads State College in the Human Resources Certification Review Program. He was a former longtime member of the Lima Labor/Management Citizens Committee, the Personnel/Nominating Committee of United Way, a former member of the Noon Optimist Club, a former member of the Elks Lodge #54 and was a former member and Past President of the Lima Chapter of the Society of Human Resources Management. He coached for several years in the Shawnee youth soccer and baseball programs.

He was a member of Central Christian Church for over 40 years until it’s closing in 2017 serving as Deacon, Elder, Vice Chair for the Congregation and three terms as Chairman of the Congregation. He was a current member of South Side Christian Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and collecting memorabilia from “Mayberry”.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Beth Talley; one son, Kevin (Jennifer) Talley of Dublin, OH; two daughters, Karin (Jed) Dorsey of Lima and Kristina (Brandon) Quatman of Delaware, OH; nine grandchildren, Alanna Dorsey, Carson Talley, Mason Quatman, Colton Talley, Reagan Quatman, Arianna Dorsey, Miles Quatman, Anderson Dorsey and Roman Quatman; one brother, Lee Talley of Zanesville, OH; one sister; Pam (Mike) Bennett of Anna, OH; brother-in-law, Dean (Nancy) Patterson of Pittsburgh, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Doy Jene (Hank) Barks; in-laws, Le and Mildred Patterson; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Patterson and Norman (Grace) Patterson.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at South Side Christian Church, 3300 S. Side Dr, Lima, Ohio 45807. Pastor Todd Cosart will officiate the service. Entombment of cremated remains will be at a later date in Shawnee Cemetery Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL and one hour prior to the service at the church.
