Carolyn L. Detrick, age 85, passed away on September 8, 2021. She was born in Lima, OH on June 4, 1936 to Eugene and Gertrude (Doty) Redd, who preceded her in death. Carolyn married Russell Dale Detrick on September 27, 1958, who survives in Lima.
Carolyn was a 1954 graduate of Lima Central High School. She was a dental assistant and office manager for several local dentists’ offices and served as the President of the Ohio Dental Association. She embarked on a second career at the Lima Refinery and retired as a key member of the Planning Department.
Carolyn’s life was one of service to both her family and community. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society, the Children’s Conservation League, and Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. Carolyn also served as part of the Victorian Guild of Lima’s MacDonell House and was active in work at Westside United Methodist Church in Lima.
Music filled the Detrick home and Carolyn, along with her entire family, was an active musician. She was a 40-plus year member of the clarinet section of the Lima Area Concert Band, having served as president, treasurer, librarian, and business manager. She was a current member of the Hallelujah Saints Band. Carolyn served as the music coordinator for the annual Christmas Tree Festival at the Allen County Museum for many years. Carolyn also organized and promoted the “Dances at Lincoln Park” in Lima.
In addition to her husband, Carolyn is survived by her children: Bradley (Charlotte) Detrick of New York, NY and Jane (Shawn) Stevens of Lima; grandson, Zachary Detrick of New York, NY; sister, Mary Jane Patterson of Wooster; sisters-in-law, Betty Kesler and Ruth Detrick both of Lima, as well as a niece and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Todd Cosart will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, September 14 and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
