Carlyn “Joyce” Hefner, 91, passed away August 28, 2021, at her home.
Joyce was born April 12, 1930 in Bluffton to Carl and Mamie (Reed) Painter, who preceded her in death. On March 19, 1952, five days after he returned from the Korean War, she married George D. Hefner, who preceded her in death on January 18, 1992.
Joyce was a 1948 graduate of Elida High School and drove a school bus for Elida Schools for 30 years. She was a wife and homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, sewing and gardening. Joyce loved growing up on the family farm; she particularly enjoyed milking the cows and driving the tractor. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Joyce was extremely proud of her family and was quick to show pictures and tell stories. She will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Joyce is survived by her son, John (Vicki) Hefner; daughter, Carlyn Hefner, grandchildren, Amanda (Lance) Pollard, Alesia Hefner, Micah (Gwen) Hefner, Jennifer (Shan) Griffin and Jon (Kasey) McKanna; great-grandchildren, Lainey Pollard, Hanley Pollard, Lincoln Pollard, Cash Pollard, Gunner Pollard, M.J. Overstreet, Jace Rawlings, Kingston Rawlings, Xander Hefner, Milly Hefner, Domino Hefner, Noah Griffin, Titus Griffin, Molly McKanna and Cooper McKanna and her sister, Betty Hefner.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Reed (Helen) Painter, Wilbur “Bud” (Helen) Painter, Clyde Painter and John Painter; sisters, Marguerite Taylor and Pauline (Jim) Richard and brother-in-law, Miles Hefner.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Pastor Jon McKanna to officiate the service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Elida.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
