I am sorry to hear of Burton's passing. I got to know him when I would visit residents at Maple Crest over the past year and a half. I am honored that he attended the worship services and bible studies I led there. Peace to all who knew him. Rev. Karol Farris, Bluffton Presbyterian Church

What wonderful memories I have of our discussions in Pastor Yost's classes at Bluffton College! He helped many of us along our faith journey. I'm so grateful to have known him.

Dear Yost Family, What a lovely funeral that was today. Great singing, remembrances, and a thoughtful message from Doug. Another of the great ones from BC, that was Burton. I had plans to be in Bluffton today, and had not heard of his passing until my mom told me. Glad that I could be a part of it. My sympathy to all of you, and hello to Peter. Jon Szabo

My deepest condolences. I'm not sure of the exact math, but Burton was my Fathers cousin. He was always so kind, and so interested in everyone's life no matter how much time might of gone by. Whether it was visiting my Grandmother Mildred or just stopping by for a visit he was wonderful to be around.

You may or may not remember us from your time with us at Trinity in Calgary but a good friend shared your dad’s obituary and we want to extend our condolences to you at this time. God be near you all as you celebrate a life lived well. Blessings to you.

I had Dr. Yost for a New Testament class at Bluffton University years ago. He was a wonderful teacher. His class was well organized and very interesting to all. May God comfort all the family in their loss.

I was one of those Bluffton students of Burton's who he encouraged to attend seminary. I had interest but no serious intentions to do so at the time. I didn't even remember him saying anything, but found a letter from him many years later (after I did attend seminary and had also completed a Ph.D in theological ethics) suggesting I consider seminary study. I have treasured his thoughtfulness and foresight in recognizing and valuing gifts in women students before there were many options for theological leadership for women in Mennonite churches. He was also always supportive as well when I came back to visit First Mennonite in Bluffton. Burton was a wise and gentle soul. May good memories continue to uphold you in these days of missing him.

Elnore and family - Just heard the news of Burton's passing. Sending hugs and prayers your way. He certainly followed Uncle Winfield's footsteps serving Bluffton University and the Mennonite community. He will be missed. I am glad we had one great visit last year. Love, Donita and Mark
