Bryon Alan Barnes, age 36 of Shawnee, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022, at 3:50 pm, Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center with his family by his side after a nearly year long battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
He was born May 11, 1986 in Lima to Timothy Alan and Jill Eileen (McDonald) Barnes who survive in Ft. Shawnee. On August 20, 2022 he married Kaitlyn Nicole Cox, his wildflower, who survives and whom he loved dearly,
Also surviving are his baby, Zeus (a pitbull mix), his sister, Allyshia Eileen (Kyle) Kuhbander of Cridersville, nephews, Kyle Kuhbander II and Cannon Kuhbander; grandmothers, Eileen Barnes of Lima and Laurel Bridge of Leesburg, FL; his aunt, Julie (Mike) Anderson of Goldsboro, NC, many cousins; Kaitlyn’s father & stepmother, Bryon & Michelle Cox of Perry Twp. and mother, Angela Miller of Lima; brothers-in-law, Joseph Miller III of Landeck and Jacob Cox of Lima, sisters-in-law, Bryanna Cox of Waynesfield, Lexis (Chance) Weitz and Mackenzie (Austin) Armstrong both of Lima; and many nieces and nephews: Raelynn Cox, Wyatt Cox, Emmilee Cox, Aubrey Cox, Ava Weitz, Haevyn Weitz and Warner Armstrong; Kaitlyn’s grandparents, Linda & Robert O’Brien of Elida and Kevin & Sue Cox of Perry Twp. and Leslie Long of Perry Twp.
Bryon was a 2004 graduate of Wapak High School where he loved to manipulate his teachers into his way of thinking. He also graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and from Rhodes State College with a degree in Nursing. He played baseball for Cridersville as a youngster and football and baseball for Wapak and was the only player to bench press 500 pounds. He had been a volunteer fireman for Cridersville Fire Department for a short time. His favorite thing in life was being a nurse. He was an Emergency Room nurse at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center where he received two DAISY awards in his four years in the Emergency Room. He had been a traveling nurse and lastly was employed as a nurse at Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio. He was a member of Lima Assassins Video Club. He was a vehement Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on cars.
Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Lima Missionary Baptist Church, 3085 Yoder Rd., Lima.
