Betty Jean Scheckelhoff, age 96, passed away December 9, 2021, at 9:25 pm, surrounded by her family at her residence. Betty was born May 22, 1925, in Lima, OH, to Robert and Pearl F. (Lincoln) Hume who preceded her in death. On April 24, 1943, she married George E. Scheckelhoff who preceded her in death on December 1, 2013.
Betty was a 1943 graduate of Lima Central High School. She had worked for many years as a secretary with Seitz Insurance Agency. Betty had been a member of the Elks BPOE #54 and formerly the Calvary United Church of Christ and most currently the First Evangelical and Reformed Church. She had also volunteered for 17 years with the Lima Memorial Hospital. Betty was very social person and loved playing cards with all her friends at Primrose.
Betty is survived by her son, George R. (Patti) Scheckelhoff of Monroeville, OH, a son in-law, Randy Ritchie of Wapakoneta, OH, 6 grandchildren: Brian Ritchie, Steve (Kris)Ritchie, Lindsay (Eric) Hammett, William (Sarah) Nickle, Adam (Tevan) Nickle, Gavin (Alex Westgate) Nickle and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Sandra S. Ritchie and a brother, Richard Hume.
There will be a funeral service held on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 11:00 am at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Rev. John Hyter. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum following the service.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Memorial Hospital. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Primrose for the excellent care shown to Betty and her family.
