Betty Jane Oen, age 97, passed away on July 25, 2022, at 7:10 pm, at her residence. Betty was born November 27, 1924, in Allen County, OH, to Earl and Flossie Point who preceded her in death. She married Lester S. Oen who preceded her in death on May 24, 1957.
Betty was a graduate of Lima South High School. Early in her career she had worked in the cafeteria at Shawnee Schools and then was the secretary for the Superintendent of the Shawnee Schools. For most of her career she had worked as a dispatcher with the State Highway Patrol from which she retired. Betty was an avid reader of Historical Fiction. She loved her flower garden and tended to it daily and also loved the hummingbirds that would frequent her garden. She volunteered with Johnny Appleseed Parks District where she would give school tours and she was also a docent at the Allen County Museum. Most of all, she loved her great grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her children: William (Betty) Oen of Lima, OH, Robert (Norma) Oen of CA and Lynda (Dennis) Nemec of Toledo, OH, 7 grandchildren: Duaine Oen, Scott (Kim) Oen, Tonja (Chris) Debell, Rich Nemec, Leslie (James) Peek, Jenessa Oen and Daniel Oen and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 7siblings: Earl Point, Jr., Robert (Janet) Point, Ann (Lewis) Dawson, Donna Miller, Mary (Robert) Crider, Eleanor Miller and Rose Adams.
There will be a private graveside with burial of cremated remains in the Ft. Amanda Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Public Library.
