Barry was an avid fisherman, hunter and reader. He loved to cook, and delighted in having people try wild game without always being forthcoming about what he was actually making, until after they tasted the dish. He was a hot sauce aficionado and ardent golfer. Barry was a bargain hunter, frequenting every discount store in and around Lima, looking for the next big score. He loved to pick up little things for people, and once he knew your preferences, be careful, you might end up with fifty frog statues for Christmas. He loved to travel, especially to visit his son and family in Key West during Fantasy Fest. He also enjoyed an annual trip to Columbus for the Vaud-Villities show. During his employment at the Lima Police Department, he was active in the FOP, and for years handled all of the gift buying/wrapping for the annual Allen Acres children’s Christmas party.
Visitation will be on November 26, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL HOME, SHAWNEE CHAPEL, with a memorial service beginning at 2:00 PM, Father Kent Kaufman to officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Delphos, Ohio after the service.
