Barbara Jean Meyer, age 89, passed away April 14, 2021, at 1:25 am, at the Shawnee Manor Nursing Home. Barbara was born October 3, 1931, in Lima, OH, to Charles D. and Naomi (Pillers) Knipe who preceded her in death. On July 31, 1987, she married Leon “Skip” L. Meyer who preceded her in death on January 10, 2009.
Barbara had worked for 27 years as an attendant with the Lima State Hospital retiring in 1983. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Barbara enjoyed quilting, embroidery, playing scrabble and rummy.
Barbara is survived by her children: Timothy (Angie) Jacobs of Lima, OH and Cheryl (Larry) Bowers of Covington, GA, a step-son, Mike Meyer of VanWert, OH, a former daughter in-law, Kim Jones of Lima, OH, 11 grandchildren: Larry (Michelle) Bowers II, Gary (Noel) Bowers, Heather (Rob) Mead, Brandy (David) Sellers, Jessica (Nick Hughes) Jacobs, Stephen Jacobs Jr., SueAnn Jacobs, Meghan Friemoth, George Meeks, Shawn Meeks and Hope Meeks, numerous great and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Rick Allen, a daughter, Linda Sue Jacobs, a son, Stephen “Spanky” Jacobs, a brother, William Knipe and 2 sisters: Mary “Betty” Preshio and Bernita Bryan.
There will be a funeral service held on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.
Friends may call one hour prior to services on Monday at the SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be her son in-law, Larry Bowers. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
