Barbara Cottrell, 81, of Lima passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022. Barbara was living in Marysville Washington near her daughter and son in law.

She was born on March 30, 1941 in Dayton to Samuel and Gertrude (Margis) Stephenson, who both preceded her in death. On November 4, 1961 she married the love of her life Jerry R. Cottrell, who preceded her in death on June 12, 1983. Barbara was preceded in death by her two sisters Janet Zimmerman and Sandra Madewell.

Prior to her retirement Barbara worked at Lima Convalescent home as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was dedicated to taking care of others and she was amazing at her job. Barbara’s greatest passion was her family and friends. She had 3 friends groups competing for her time. The Rinks group, her Nursing home group and her water aerobics group. Nothing gave her more pleasure than meeting one of her groups, sometimes they overlapped, for lunch or exercise or just coffee and gossip. Barbara’s pride and joy was her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her endless pictures to chat about and a reason to travel. Barbara loved taking her Grandson Jeremiah on mini getaways spending quality time together. A few years after retirement Barbara moved to Washington State to be closer to her Daughter Sherry and her family. Unfortunately dementia took over Barbara’s memories and wrecked havoc on her body. Barbara lost the gift of speech but she never stopped loving her family, the one sentence that always came out clear was “I love you too”

Barbara will be loved and remembered by many people but especially her two children Sherry (Daniel) Allen of Marysville, WA and Matthew (Tonya) Cottrell of Lima; her 3 grandchildren Corbin (Christina) Allen, Chelsea (Danny) Duclos and Jeremiah Cottrell; and her great-grandchildren Stella Allen, Violet Allen, Colton Duclos and Zoe Duclos.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Interment will be in Allentown Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
