Barbara Ann Schmidt, 96, died on December 4, 2021. She was born April 9, 1925 to Otto and Edith (Krebs) Schmidt of Lima, OH.
She was raised on Albert Street as a child and lived in Lima throughout her life. She graduated from St. John’s High School in 1943. She is preceded in death by siblings Alma Schlott, Paul Schmidt, Kenneth Schmidt, Ruth O’Grady, Jeanne Buchanan, and Marilynn Riepenhoff.
She is survived by her brother Jack Schmidt (Eleanor) of Gahanna, OH. Although never having any children of her own, she was a committed and attentive aunt to three generations of nieces and nephews and the organizer of family reunions and the source of Schmidt family history. She was a passionate supporter of her 26 nieces and nephews, 62 great nieces and nephews and over 30 and counting great-great nieces and nephews whether it be their sporting events, major life changes, religious celebrations or birthdays, Aunt Barbara was always present and supportive.
Barbara spent her career as the business manager for the Delphos Herald, retiring in 1987. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church, and a member of their Altar and Rosary Society. She was an avid supporter of Lima Central Catholic and their athletic programs, Notre Dame Football and 20th Century Lanes. She enjoyed a long bowling career which took her all over the country.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in her honor to Lima Central Catholic Athletics and /or St John’s Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at St John’s Catholic Church, 797 S. Main Street, Lima, Ohio 45804. Father David Ross will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery in Lima, OH.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior the service at the church.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we ask that all visitors wear a mask.
