Richard O. "Dick" Long, 92, died at 7:10 p.m. April 29, 2012, at Springview Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Aug. 21, 1919, in Lima to Clarence M. and Clara M. Suydam Long, who preceded him in death. On June 24, 1945, he married Evelyn Mae Line, who died Dec. 3, 1999.
Mr. Long retired as a firefighter from the Lima Fire Department after 30 years and had worked at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services for more than 25 years. He was a member of Lima Community Church. He was a member of Fort Amanda Lodge 706 Free & Accepted Masons and had been a member of Chapter 16 Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Richard (Cristy) Long, of Lima; a daughter, Toneta L. (Robert) Meeker, of Elida; seven grandchildren, Craig Long, Cindy and Tim Fox, Tony Bryan, Kris Bryan, and Nick and Allen Long; five great-grandchildren, Cale, Rebekah, Kayla, Erica and Ashley; a brother, Arthur G. Long, of Lima; and a sister, Patricia Mills, of Lima.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Cris Bryan; a great-grandson, Brandon Fox; a sister-in-law, Clara Long; and a brother-in-law, Bob Mills.
Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel, along with a firefighters memorial service. Chaplain Larry Inskeep will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Westminster.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
