Vincent R. Turner, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Otterbein in Cridersville, OH. He was a resident of Lima for 64 years.
Vince was born March 25, 1925, in Gallatin County, Montana, to Joseph and Bessie (Stratton) Turner. On September 26, 1953, he married Ruth E. Tyson, who went home to be with Lord on August 10, 2017.
Vince proudly served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946, seeing action in the European and North African Theaters. He was a member of the 10th Armored Division, 54th Armored Infantry Battalion, achieved the rank of Sergeant and was a Bronze Star recipient.
Vince was a graduate of Montana State College and the Illinois Institute of Technology. He was a mechanical engineer with Westinghouse Small Motors Division – Lima and retired in 1986 after 33 years of service. He loved music in every form, from playing the trombone to singing baritone in the choir at Bluelick Bible Church where he was a member.
Vince was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents, Joseph and Bessie Turner; his older brother, Joseph, Jr.; his sister, Velna; his twin brother, Victor; his nieces, Barbara Foreman and Ruth Rosh; his nephew, Jim Turner; and faithful friend Rod McColm.
Vince is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Robert) Clinton of Stafford, VA; his son, Scott (Lori) Turner of Greer, SC; his grandchildren, Bob (Heidi) Clinton; Erin (Carlos) DePaz; Brian (Amanda) Clinton; Greg Turner; and Lisa (Andrew) Leonard; his great-grandchildren, Roberto, Carla, and Ariana DePaz; his nieces and nephews, Paul (Sandra) Turner, Loren (Linda) Turner, Joyce Willett, Don (Nona) McKay, Richard McKay, David (Vivian) McKay, Susan (Dale) Rambur, Bruce (Rena) McKay, Mark (Mie) Turner, and Mary Ann McColm, our faithful friend.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Bluelick Bible Church, 1138 West Bluelick Road, Lima, OH, 45801. Viewing will begin 1 1/2 hours before the service. Pastor Jim Neighbors will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and VFW #1275
The family would like to extend its deepest appreciation to Putnam County Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Dad during the final weeks of his life.
