Rev. Arthur “Art” Ray Sloan, age 90, was called into the presence of the Lord at 8:40 pm Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Van Crest Health Care Center of Delphos.
Art was born June 12, 1927 in Toledo to the late Charles R. and Grace (Thompson) Sloan. On November 9, 1951 he married the joy of his life, Joy Ann (Hanny) Sloan who preceded him in death on January 3, 2010. They were married 59 wonderful years.
Art sailed the great lakes as a Merchant Marine before joining the United States Navy during WWII. He enjoyed fishing and was a man of many hobbies. Art loved the Lord and spent his life witnessing to others. He began his career in Henrietta, OK before ministering in Antwerp, OH, East Liverpool, OH, Gardendale Church of God in Lima and retiring from the Church of God in Elyria, OH. After retirement he spent his time as a guest speaker and Interim Pastor at many area churches. Art last attended Cable Road Alliance Church, Lima.
He was blessed with three sons, Charles “Chuck” (Chris) Sloan of Elida, Michael “Mike” (Jean) Sloan of Elyria and Bruce (Tracey) Sloan of Lima; grandchildren, Carrie (Derrick) Shoup, Kelly Gray, Brent (Kara) Sloan, Katie Sloan, Adam Sloan and Alisha (Cory) Hamrick; great-grandchildren, Kaelyn, Brianna, Brady,Alaina, Gabby, Riley, Brogan, Grady, Oakley and Amelia and a great-great grandson, Larenz.
Other survivors include, sister, Shirley Moore and brother, Don Sloan.
He is preceded in death by a great-grandson, Braxton Sloan; brothers, Charles and Clinton and sisters, Cleo and Audrey.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 am Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Gerbert Darlington will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Elida.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, August 8, 2017 and one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In loving memory of his wife Joy who was a cancer survivor, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or charity or church of donor’s choice.
