Leola E. Stemen, 90, of Lima, passed away at 3:14 AM on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at her residence.
She was born on January 3, 1927 in Allen County to Clarence B. and Bertha (Sarber) Clevenger, who both preceded her in death. On June 18, 1949, she married Robert M. Stemen, who preceded her in death on October 9, 2013.
Leola was a member of the Lima Baptist Temple, where she was active in the Master Builders Sunday School class, The New Horizons Group and sang in the choir. She was also a member of The Senior Citizens Center and The Welsh Society of Northwest Ohio. She had worked as a teacher at Temple Christian School. Leola enjoyed reading, hand crafts and being a grandmother.
Survivors include three sons, David (Rebecca) Stemen of Gomer, Gregory Stemen of Lima and Martin Stemen of Rimer; three daughters Kay (Mark) Spallinger of Beaverdam, Elaine (Terry) Minter of Dola and Karen (David) Brickner of Bowling Green, OH; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great- grandchildren; her brother Jay (DeAnna) Clevenger of Ashland, OH; two sisters Fay (Marvin) Stephens of Elida and Joyce Zimmerman of Lima; and a sister-in-law, Annabelle Clevenger of Convoy.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Karyl Stemen; a granddaughter, Erin Snow; and one great-grandson, Layton Rogers; two brothers Garwin (Marie) Clevenger and Raymond Clevenger; three sisters Cecil (Henry) Hawkins, Selma (Glen) Kilgore and Helen June Clevenger; and a brother-in-law Clarence Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Lima Baptist Temple, 982 Brower Road, Lima, with Pastor Gary Hohman officiating. Interment will immediately follow the services in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
