James L. Frey, age 80, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 3, 2017, at 5:35 am, at The Gardens in Wapakoneta, following a short illness.

James was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio on May 31, 1937 to William T. and Emma C. (Schlegel) Frey, who preceded him in death. On February 5, 1957, he married Doris Shoffstall, who passed away on November 5, 2011.

James was a lifetime farmer and small business owner. He was a caring father and he trusted the Lord throughout his life. He was formerly a volunteer EMT for the St. John’s Rescue Squad. James was also a former member of Lima Baptist Temple where he was an usher and part of the New Horizon Group. He was currently attending Bluelick Bible Church and was the Co-founder of the Ten Commandments Project.

James is survived by two sons, Alan (Ellen) Frey and Brian Frey both of Wapakoneta; five daughters, LaRoyce (Keith) Miller, Kamille (Ron) Becker, Brendala (Scott) Anspaugh, Jacqueline (Bruce) Carpenter all of Wapakoneta, and Felecia (Bob) Adams of Cridersville; one sister, Vicki (Jay) Seibert of Spencerville; 17 grandchildren, Erica Goodman, Kodi (Andy) Moser, K.C. (Lindsey) Becker, Windy (Ryan) Taylor, Autumn Rosebrook, Abraham Adams, Ashley (Aaron) Clark, Luke Adams, Rachel Adams, Britney Jenkins, Jon (Abigail)Anspaugh, Joshua Frey, Trevor Frey, Wyatt Frey, Carter Frey, Levi Frey and Maddilyn Frey; one sister-in-law Dorothy Frey; 4 step-grandchildren, Amy Miller, Nick Miller, Keith (Angie) Hemmert and Kristin King; 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michelle Frey and Roberta Adams; two brothers, Robert (Evelyn) Frey and Earl Frey; two sisters, Roberta (Ralph) Mummaugh and Edith (Bob) Rivers and brother-law, Kenneth (Mary Jane) Shoffstall.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Bluelick Bible church with Rev. Jim Neighbors to officiate the service. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 pm on Friday at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL and from 9:00 am until time of services at 10:00 am at the church.
