Frederick H. “Fred” Hopson, age 88, was called into the presence of the Lord, at 2:32 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at his home.
Frederick was born November 12, 1929 in Sopchoppy, FL, to the late Hardy Franklin and Mabel Virginia (Faulkner) Hopson. On April 3, 1983 he married Bienvenida “Nida” (Ogtong) Hopson who survives in Lima.
Frederick proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired as a Policeman for the Lima City Police Department and was owner – operator of Franklin’s Variety Store for over thirty years. Frederick loved the Lord and was a member of South Side Christian Church. He was a member of Lima Lodge #205 Free and Accepted Masons and he was a 32nd Degree Mason, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo. Other memberships include the American Legion Post #96, VFW #1275, DAV Chapter #19, Eagles Aeries #370 and the Ohio FOP Lodge #21. Frederick was an avid reader, enjoyed history and loved to work.
He is survived by his wife, Bienvenida “Nida” Hopson of Lima; three sons, Donald M. (Tina) Williams of Columbus Grove, Steven F. (Cathy) Hopson of Lima and Ronald F. (Evelyn) Hopson of Ninety-Six, SC; daughter, Pauline V. Harrelson of Jacksonville, FL and ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and six great-great Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by an infant-daughter, Karen M. Hopson and granddaughter, Abigail Harrelson.
Memorial services will begin 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at South Side Christian Church, 3300 S. Side Drive, Lima, Ohio 45807. Pastor Todd Cosart will officiate the service. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to thank Pastor Todd Cosart, Chaplain Herb Wilker at St. Rita’s Hospice and their wonderful staff, Kim, Betsy, Lisa, Barb, Candy and Jan for the wonderful care given to Frederick.
