Carroll L. Shoemaker, 84 of Lima, passed away August 31, 2018, at the Lima Convalescent Home.
Carroll was born February 27, 1934 in Lima to Albert and Ruth (Barrett) Shoemaker, who preceded him in death. On March 26, 1955 he married Barbara J. (Grafton) Shoemaker who survives him in Lima.
Carroll is a 1952 graduate of Shawnee High School. He worked as an Energy Auditor for Ohio Power Company / AEP for 40 years. Carroll was a 32nd Degree Mason and a former Commander of the Lima Power Squadron. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, camping and boating. Carroll enjoyed woodworking, was an avid gunsmith and a NRA member. He loved music, dancing, was a loving pet owner, and had a joke and smile for everyone. Carroll loved spending time with his family and watching his grandkids play sports; he spent a lot of time hunting with his son, sons-in-law and grandsons in Southeast Ohio. He adored his wife of 63 years who he lovingly referred to as his Bride.
In addition to his wife, Carroll is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Sue (Daniel) Peggs, Julie Ann (Mark) Pantello, Lisa Kay (Gregory) Cogley and Kristen Lee (Joe Bakies) Shoemaker; grandchildren, Rob (Christie) Peggs, Scott (Emily) Peggs, Eric (Sara) Peggs, Matthew (Jaime) Bucher, Nathaniel (Angelique) Bucher, Adam (Linsey Koenig) Good, Elliott (Jessica) Good, Meagan (David) Hudson, Michael Pantello, Tony Pantello, Nicole (Joe) Moor, Amanda (Betsy Hone) Cogley, Renee (Emily Derr) Cogley, Jordan (Joseph) Lackey, Jenna Houston, Abbigail Houston, Sean Houston, Gabriel Butler and Gavin Butler; great-grandchildren, Briahna, Cale, Cole, Ethan, Evan, Elliott, Daniel, Drew, Ryan, Luke, Tatum, Greenlee, Claire, Avery, Emery, Hadley, Quinn, Mariyah, Ariana, Selena, Cameila, Ava, Thayer and a great-grandson on the way; sisters, Virginia Lane and Betty Wilkes; brother-in-law, Arthur (Carole) Grafton III and dozens of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his son, Steven L. Shoemaker; sister, Faye Howell and his brothers, Adrian Shoemaker and Raymond Shoemaker.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES – SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Rev. Ed Rinehart to officiate the service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service held at 7:30 PM. There will also be visitation time from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Wednesday.
